Manual of Life

Interesting fact::: Many of you may know that I am sort of a entrepreneurial nerd with astronomical interests in small business start up and operations. As a matter of fact, I've had the pleasure of working with a couple of small businesses in the areas of bookkeeping, start up, advertising, and daily operations. Let me just say, it was an awesome experience. There’s just something about working with a person that started with nothing more than a vision and being chosen to assist in bringing that vision into reality.

Well, one of the things that I always encourage the people that I've worked with is to do is create a map, standard, or otherwise known or referred to as a “manual” for your company. For the nonprofit group, it’s their bylaws and business plan. For every company, it’s the business plan and the operations manual. This serves as the central focus of how your business will run. It sets the standard that others will read, learn, and emulate for your company throughout years to come.

This got me to thinking…. If someone ever asked to read the manual of your life, what would it say? What standards or values have your instituted so that your life is respected? Are their boundaries? I just want to encourage you to think about your life and where you want to be? There’s an old saying: “You teach people how to treat you”. I’ve found it to be very true. Pull out your pen and paper and begin to set standards and values for your life thus requiring anyone that desires to be a part of your life to read, learn, and quite possibly emulate them. After all, you are the only one responsible for your life!
